Weaving techniques
No two GetMyRugs are quite alike, because none are made by a machine alone. Every design is built by hand using one of a few time-honoured techniques — here is how to tell them apart, and what each one is best for.
From a single knot to a flat weave.
Each technique has its own feel, durability and price — and its own kind of beauty.
Hand-Knotted
The pinnacle of the craft. Each knot is tied by hand around the warp — a single rug can hold a million knots and take months to finish. The most durable and valuable construction, and a true heirloom that lasts for generations.
Hand-Tufted
Wool is punched into a canvas backing by hand with a tufting tool, then sheared, washed and finished. Plush, richly coloured and beautifully affordable — luxury underfoot without the hand-knotted price.
Flat-Weave
No pile — just tight, reversible weaving on the loom, in the tradition of the kilim and dhurrie. Light, low-profile and hard-wearing, ideal for high-traffic rooms, layering and doorways.
Hand-Loomed
Woven on a hand-operated loom, often in plush loop-and-cut textures and quiet solids. A soft, contemporary feel at a friendly price — the easy way to add warmth and texture.
Persian & Oriental knotting.
Our classic designs — medallions, florals and intricate borders — are hand-knotted in the Persian and oriental traditions that have travelled the Silk Road for centuries, using the symmetrical and asymmetrical knots that give each region its signature look.
Spinning & dyeing
Raw wool, silk and cotton are hand-spun into yarn, dyed — often with traditional recipes — and dried in the sun.
Knotting on the loom
Following a hand-drawn map, weavers tie knot after knot across the stretched warp threads, row by patient row.
Shearing & finishing
The finished rug is sheared to an even pile, washed, stretched flat and bound — ready for its journey to your home.
